The slaveholder and merchant from Catalonia named Bernardo Dala leases out an enslaved Circassian woman named Agnese, who is approximately 22 years of age, to the merchant named Franco Giustiniani, for a term of two years and a total cost of 40 Genoese lire, for the purpose of being a wet nurse. The contract notes that the enslaved Agnese had initially been leased by Lazzaro de Feliziano to Agostino de Ripalta for a term of ten years, and then subsequently subleased by Agostino to Bernardo for a term of approximately nine years. The current contract shortens the initial ten year period by approximately 5 years after which Agnese is mandated for manumission. Franco makes the 40 lire payment with the understanding he Franco must use the money to invest in part of a single share (locum) of San Giorgio to be registered in the name of Agnese. The contract was extracted.
