An agreement made in Chios, on the date of January 29, 1459, between, on the one hand, the two owners of a ship that had anchored in its port named Maurizio Cattaneo and Tobia Lomellini, and, on the other hand, several Islamic merchants ("infrascripta mauri mercatores et habents raubam et merces in ipsa nave"): nine men from Tripoli, five from Tunis, two from Granada and two from Fez. These itinerant merchants contest the sums demanded for their freight and it is agreed, after a long discussion and the intervention of an expert, that they will have to pay 4.75 ducats of Chios for each bag of linen transported from Alexandria to Chios; for the other products, the freight rate is also reduced.
