A compromise agreement (compromissum in Latin) in the late medieval and early modern is an agreement between opposing parties to settle a dispute or reach a settlement rather than continue the dispute or go to trial, usually by means of an independent adjudictor or arbitrator agreed upon and appointed by both parties.
