- This refers to the region roughly located on either side of the Lower Danube in what is today northern Bulgaria and southern Romania, and which was inhabited by the Getae people throughout much of Classical Antiquity. The Geta as a distinct political and cultural group had disappeared by the Middle Ages although European merchants often referred to captives and enslaved persons from this region as Gete.
