The Crimean Peninsula is a peninsula on the northern coast of the Black Sea. In the late medieval and early modern era, the region was mainly under the control of the Mongol Empire (1238–1449) and the Crimean Khanate (1449–1783). There were several autonomous Genoese colonies on the peninsula from 1286–1475.
Cristiana was an enslaved Tatar woman who was resident in Genoa during the late fourteenth century. She was conditionally manumitted in 1384 but return to the status of enslavement in 1392 after confessing to having breached the conditions of her manumission.
