This document records a decree by Oldrado de Lampugnano (the Genoese ducal lieutenant) and the Officium provisionis Romanie ordering that the ship of Galeotto Pinelli, recently arrived from the eastern Mediterranean with alum and other goods, be requisitioned for a military fleet against Alexios I of Theodoro. Pinelli was compelled to unload the cargo in Genoa and was released from his contractual obligation to transport the goods to western destinations such as Tortona. To mitigate these losses, they ruled that the goods would retain the same fiscal status—regarding customs, freight, and other dues—as if they had completed their intended voyage. This measure effectively prevented additional taxation or financial penalties despite the continuation of the transport of good by land, to which they remain subject after the forced disembarkation.
The slaveholder named Giovanni de Sigestro sells an enslaved Wallachian child named Teodora to Girolamo de Camulio, the bishop of Chios, for 25 ducats of Chios.
The slaveholder named Girolamo de Camulio, the bishop of Chios, liberates the enslaved Wallachian child named Teodora, who is approximately 12 years of age. As a condition of the manumission the freed Teodora agrees to work as a servant in the household of Teodora de Camulio, the sister of Girolamo, for a term of 7 years.
The slaveholder named Isabella, widow of Raffaele di Negro, promised to lease out an enslaved Tatar woman named Margarita, who is 22 years of age, to the notary named Tommaso Naste, for a term of 2 years and total payment of 24 Genoese lire. The form of the contract is based on that of a typical “service agreement” contract; in addition, it was agreed that Thomas could sublet the enslaved Margarita if she was unable to continue as a wet nurse for his family during the two years. At the beginning of the contract, the word famula has been deleted and replaced by alumpna.
