The slaveholder named Cristoforo de Via leases out an enslaved Albanian woman named Maria, who is approximately 30 years of age, to a notary named Bartolomeo Foglietta, for a term of eight years and a total payment of 45 Genoese lire. This contract is a sub-lease. The enslaved Maria had already been leased by a certain Niccolò de Palodio to Pietro de Via for a ten year term, but Pietro died two years into the lease. Cristoforo de Via was named as the executor for the goods of the deceased Pietro.
The slaveholder named Bartolomeo de Podio leases out an enslaved woman named Maddalena to a merchant from Pisa named Lorenzo Griffo, for a term of 2 years. The lease occurs through a commercial broker named Guglielmo Assereto who serves as the commercial agent for Bartolomeo, who is absent because he is being held in debtor's prison. Guglielmo kept the enslaved Maddalena in his house for 15 days, and possibly longer, during which time he made her available to potential holders. The contract mentions that she is to serve Lorenzo as a household servant and a concubine, and strongly suggests that she was forced to submit herself sexually to prospective holders during the fifteen day period. The contract also mentioned that the enslaved Maddalena was commissioned by Bartolomeo to Guglielmo in 1418.
The slaveholder named Giacomo Celesia leases out an enslaved Tatar woman named Clara, who is approximately 36 years of age, to a cutler named Pietro Garrone, for a term of 2 years and a total payment of 29 Genoese lire. The contract notes that the term of service had started on 20 April 1420.
The slaveholder and merchant named Percivale Ardissone leases out a formerly enslaved woman from Cyprus named Agnese to a cloth merchant named Guglielmo Assereto, for a term of 10 years and total payment of 75 Genoese lire. The enslaved Agnese had already been manumitted subject to a service obligation of thirteen years to Percivale. The term of conditional manumission continues for the remaining ten years of service to Guglielmo.
